Bixi is a bicycle rental/sharing service launched in Toronto on May 3rd in 2011. At launch, 1,000 bikes and 80 stations are spread around downtown Toronto. This service shares the same branding as the Montreal system, also known as Bixi. Bixi Toronto and Bixi Montreal are both privately owned and is headquartered in Montreal.
Bixi is designed for short trips throughout the city. This is why a subscription allows a Bixi rider to unlimited use of a bike for 30 minutes at a time. If a bike is signed out for more than 30 minutes, additional charges will be billed.

Bixi Stations
There are over 80 scattered throughout the downtown core. Yearly and monthly subscribers are sent a map with all stations. There is also an iPhone App available to locate stations as well. Rates and Usage
- Yearly subscriptions can be purchased for $95
- 30-day subscriptions can be purchased for $40
- 72-hour subscriptions for $12
- 24-hour subscriptions for $5
Those who pay for a yearly or 30 day subscription receive a dongle (key) for access. 24 and 72 hour subscriptions can be purchased at a Bixi station. Credit cards are required.
Because Bixi is designed for short trips, your subscription grants you unlimited use of bikes for 30 minutes at a time. For example, if you take out a bike and ride if for 25 minutes and then return it to another bike dock, you are not charged additional fees. You are also free to take another bike out for another 30 minutes.
However if your rental at any given period of time exceeds 30 minutes the following charges apply:
