The home services division has 3 main offerings: Hot water heaters, HVAC and protection plans
Direct Energy rents hot water heaters to 1.4 million customers in Ontario and is the market share leader (50%). Reliance is the main competitor in the hot water heater market. Hot water heaters are rented, as opposed to owned in Ontario due to the previous industry structure.
Controversy
Direct Energy has come under fire for their door to door sales tactics in selling electricity contracts. They have been accused of high pressure and deceptive sales tactics that are adverse to the consumer
