Check out Toronto’s Evergreen Brickworks

Evergreen Brickworks or the Don Valley Brickworks is a heritage site and a former brick-working factory in Toronto’s Don Valley. The area consists of a natural park environment and the former brick factories.  The National Geographic Traveller recently named the Brickworks as a top 10 sustainable tourism destination [1]

There are 16 buildings which host a farmers market, garden centre and art exhibits. Yoga and tours are also held.

Founded in 1882, a farmer – William Taylor dug into the site and hit clay. He founded the Don Valley Pressed Brick Company. The site has been used as a brickworks until 1989. Bricks from the site are found in Toronto buildings such as Casa Loma, Hart House, Toronto General Hospital and the Ontario Legislature.
