Hey Toronto urban farmers – time to plant the fall crop

For the Toronto urban farmers out there, its officially time to plant the fall crop. The cooler fall weather is good for leafy greens and root crops. Lettuce, spinach, kale, carrots.

Plant now (in the heat of summer) to get a September or October harvest.

Here’s a list og suggested crops and their time to maturity

Easier
Lettuce – 50 days
Arugula – 40 days
Chard – 55 days
Spinach – 45 days
Kale – 60 days
Mustard – 40 days
Beets – 60 days
Radishes – 30 days
Kohlrabi – 60 days
Turnips – 50 days
Carrots – 80 days

Harder
Broccoli – 80 days
Cauliflower – 75 days
Brussels sprouts – 90 days
Cabbage – 95 days
